Continents: Africa

11_Africa.jpg

The south and east of the African Plate is mostly a vast high plateau, broken by a few mountain regions and rift valleys, notably the Great Rift Valley. There is a small range of fold mountains in the north-west called the Atlas range. To the north-east lies the Arabian Plate, recently split from the African Plate by the opening of the Red Sea, which is growing wider all the time.
